Community Service
Bobbitt is dedicated to giving back to the communities in which we live and work, and we
often do so by contributing our design build expertise. These projects can have a big impact
on not only the employees of Bobbitt, but also on the causes we care about. Some of our recent philanthropic efforts include:
Bobbitt Celebrates Earth Day with Walmart
As part of Walmart's sustainability commitment, over 100 associates distributed reusable shopping bags near a giant 3D "Can Sculpture" depicting a map of North Carolina. Bobbitt helped construct the sculpture, made entirely of canned Walmart food products. All of the food, valued at over $7,000, was later donated to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Bobbitt’s team consisted of
Parks Buie, Jerry Fink, Jeff Ford, Elizabeth Heinrich, Roy Hensley, Chuck Howe, Mike Huslage, John Kelley, Will Marshburn, Steven Peedin and Donnie Strickland.
Alliance Medical Ministry
Bobbitt Design Build provided services at our cost only to covert an 18,220-square-foot church into a new facility for Alliance Medical Ministry – complete with treatment rooms, waiting rooms,
a pharmacy, restrooms, offices, nurse’s stations and a teaching kitchen. Alliance Medical
Ministry provides affordable medical care for low-income, uninsured working families in
Wake County, reducing the number of patients who have to go to emergency rooms
for more expensive care. The organization has provided on-going care for over 5,000 patients and had more than 30,000 patient visits in its first three years.
Miracle League of the Triangle
The Miracle League of the Triangle helps open doors for youth who face physical and
mental challenges that limit their abilities to play organized athletics. Bobbitt supported
the organization with a donation of services and materials to develop a specially designed
baseball field equipped with a rubberized playing surface to accommodate children with
wheelchairs. With the new Miracle League Field, these children now have an outdoor
baseball field to call their own. Check out the 2009 season schedule.
“Canstruction” at Marbles Kids Museum
Bobbitt has participated every year since 2001 in the “Canstruction” exhibit at Marbles Kid's Museum . We volunteer by selecting and ordering cans, making templates and props, and building the sculpture with participation and generous support from Bobbitt employees and family. The Bobbitt Canstruction team completed a towering green giant entry for Canstruction 2009: Garden of Eatin' featuring over 7,000 items totaling a half ton of food to be donated to the Food Bank. Bobbitt was awarded “Best Use of Labels” for the 2009 entry and will proceed to national competition. Special thanks to Senn Dunn Insurance for participating. Our 2008 “Bob the Builder” exhibit featured more than 3,000 cans and 700 boxes of pudding.
Operation Christmas Child
Bobbitt participated in making a child’s day with a shoe box filled with gifts for Christmas
2007. The project, Operation Christmas Child, is part of Samaritan’s Purse. Participants
gathered to pack shoeboxes with small gifts, including school supplies, toys, gloves, hats
and toothbrushes. The boxes were packed and shipped to boys and girls of various ages
all over the world, each living under different, difficult circumstances.
