Refuge Temple Church of God in Christ
Bobbitt took such great care of Ecclesia Church of God in
Christ that the pastor made a referral to Pastor Wayne Penn
of Refuge Temple Church of God in Christ. Pastor Penn turned
to Bobbitt to build a 6,600-square-foot church located on William
Harden Street in Columbia. The Refuge Temple sanctuary was completed
in phase one, and the fellowship hall and kitchen were built
out in phase two.
This project involved many challenges,
including extreme soil conditions, converting water flow, and
building a retention basin for a neighboring pond. With its
comprehensive planning, design, permitting and construction
know-how, Bobbitt was able to fully address these concerns.
In addition, Bobbitt knew the church wanted chandeliers
but was running short on budget. Having recently built for Salem
United Methodist Church, Bobbitt knew that Salem had four huge
brass chandeliers in storage that were not being utilized. The
chandeliers were generously donated to Refuge Temple and were
the perfect fit for their needs. Bobbitt also made a custom
cross to put behind the baptistery.
The Church of God
in Christ denomination, headquartered in Orangeburg, SC, is
so pleased with the Ecclesia and Refuge Temple buildings they
are now encouraging their congregations to build similar churches.
