Hoke County Celebrates Groundbreaking on New Community Building
RAEFORD, N.C. (September 5, 2019) – Hoke County, situated south of Ft. Bragg, celebrated this week with a groundbreaking ceremony for the upcoming Robert A. Wright Hoke County Agricultural Building. Bobbitt Design Build was selected to design and construct the facility located at 645 E. Palmer Road in Raeford. The new space will serve, in part, as the county’s N.C. Cooperative Extension Building.
According to county officials, the new agricultural facility will connect area farmers, agribusinesses and the community with vital research-based information and technology. The space will host programs and partnerships focused on agriculture and food, health and nutrition, and 4-H youth development. The building will also have conference and banquet space to serve the Hoke County community for weddings, birthday parties and other events.
Robert Wright, long time Hoke County Commissioner, school board member, and the building’s namesake, said at the ceremony: “While the facility will be used mainly as an extension office, we’re also making it large to be used as a shelter in case of an emergency. I think it will be well used and a real asset to the county.”
After saving for years, Hoke County was able to pay for the building in cash, which is no small feat for a small municipality. Officials selected Bobbitt to design and build the new 16,860 square-foot space.
“When we were trying to choose a team to design the building for us, Bobbitt came in and impressed us. We saw the model today, and we are excited to see the finished building and start using it for the whole community,” adds Harry Southerland, Hoke County Vice-Chairman.
“Our departments need event space, so when we build this cooperative extension building, it will have four separate spaces that can be made into a large room. That is what’s exciting for me,” said Hoke County Manager Letita Edens at the ceremony.
With an anticipated completion date of May 2020, the entire Hoke County community is excited to getting the new building up and running.
