Bobbitt Design Build completed a 12,700-square-foot addition, as well as renovation of the 2,640-square-foot existing Station #2 for St. Stephens Fire Department, headquartered in Hickory, N.C. The facility is located at 4060 Springs Road in Conover, N.C.
Station #2 was built in 1996 as a two-bay station to improve response time to meet the growth demands in the fire district. The addition allows the station to become St. Stephens’ primary facility for the future.
The new building features brick and stone detailing, four drive-through bays for eight trucks, and four dorm rooms. Also, an improved facility enables the department to train their members to provide a more effective and safe response to its service area.
“We chose Bobbitt because of their fire station experience, and we like how they do business,” said Chief Shawn Greene. “Bobbitt’s approach allowed us to remain operational during construction to continue serving our district and maintain our insurance rating. They also allowed us to give input on the use of local subcontractors and suppliers.”
